Montrose County - Home of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park
Montrose County is a vast and diverse county that is dominated by public lands. These lands include the high plateau of the Uncompahgre, deep gorge of the Gunnison River, adobes and canyons of the foothill area, and most of the Paradox Valley. The public lands support working industries including logging, mining, grazing and a large recreation and tourism based economy.

Montrose County has four unique municipalities in its boundaries. The largest, the City of Montrose, has become a regional retail and service center for the Region. It is strategically located in the center of the Uncompahgre Valley on the Western Slope of Colorado. The Colorado Rockies lie directly east, the spires of the San Juans sparkle just 25 miles south, the largest flat-top mountain in the world looms 40 miles to the north, while the world renowned hunting Montrose County
grounds of the Uncompahgre Plateau frame the western sunset.

Located 260 miles southwest of Denver, Montrose is a transportation crossroads with U.S. Highways 50 and 550 intersecting in the city, and air service provided by major carriers at the Montrose Regional Airport.

The Town of Olathe, in the northern part of Montrose County, is an agricultural community that has become world famous for its "Olathe sweet" sweet corn. The Towns of Naturita and Nucla, located in the west end of Montrose County, have a rich history of mining and have most recently begun to capitalize on their distinctive environment to promote tourism.
