Current Exciting Volunteer Opportunities

Tax Aid Program

This year we are happy to announce that RSVP will help the AARP Tax Aid Program. This is a free service offered to older adults. Most of the returns are very simple, and training is provided along with computers set up for this program. Training will be starting soon so let your local coordinator know ASAP if you are interested. It is so rewarding to help people get refunds they didn’t know they were eligible for because they stopped filing taxes.

Winter Ready

It is time for “Winter Ready” and we need volunteers to assist the homebound with thing like installing new furnace filters, changing smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries, and cleaning dryer vents. These are simple things that can help keep our older adults safe.

Medical Escorts

Our newest effort is providing support to those having outpatient surgery at the Black Canyon Surgical Center. Many who live alone have no one to take them to their appointment or be the responsible party to receive discharge instructions and take them home. The surgery center cannot discharge to a taxi or All Points Transit. The volunteer also makes sure the patient has what they need, water, phone, and food close by. We are piloting this program in Montrose and only for the surgery center currently.
