In 2015, recognizing the lack of adequate broadband services and the impact on the economic development viability of our communities, Region 10 members requested and received funding from Colorado’s Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) to develop a regional broadband implementation plan. As a result, an innovative and cost-effective plan was developed to improve the broadband infrastructure within the region.
In the time since this plan was developed, much of what was conceived is now a reality. Region 10 is among the innovative community leaders that has made unprecedented strides in establishing a fiber network for its communities.
This network provides an innovative, highly leveraged plan to provide abundant and redundant services to the community that utilizes existing networks, prevents overbuild, and brings affordable services into the region.
The project works with a number of partners including Delta/Montrose Electric Association (DMEA), Tri-State Generation, Western State Colorado University, Gunnison County Electric Association, Department of Local Affairs (DOLA), Economic Development Administration (EDA), and our local governments to develop the network.
If you have questions about service in your area please contact Corey.
Our Successes
Services driving opportunity.
Thus far, the project has built or obtained access to more than 200 miles of infrastructure, connecting from Grand Junction to Nucla, that provides access to the communities of Delta, Montrose, Gunnison, Olathe, and Hotchkiss. We are currently working on completing connections to Cedaredge, Crawford, Paonia, Crested Butte, Ouray, and Ridgway, in conjunction with San Miguel County to reach Norwood, Telluride, and Mountain Village. As the project reaches these communities, private internet service providers can access service at a central location in the community to provide service to businesses and residents.
